Saw a TTC special constable today in the subway system with an XTS2500 and an 800mhz whip on it.

Have they moved to the public safety network and just use the same repeaters Fire does in the tunnels?

Looked through the database and didn't see anything there in terms of talkgroups.

Ideas?

You saw an XTS2500 with a UHF antenna. My next post is of an XTS2500 with a UHF and an 800MHz antenna, to compare (and see that they're similar).

First pic: XTS2500 with an 800MHz antenna
Second pic: XTS2500 with a UHF antenna
Third pic: 800MHz and UHF antenna side-by-side (800MHz is on the left/bottom)

There are only a number of frequencies repeated underground that are 800MHz (6 of them to be exact). TTC Specials are dispatched on the regular UHF TTC frequencies, there'd be no need (not to mention a safety concern) for them to carry 800MHz. Most of their radios use UHF stubby antennas. I don't have one handy right now, else I'd take a pic of that for you to see as well.

However.

They DO have access to Toronto Police via Channel 4 on their radios. It isn't monitored by TPS, however Transit Control can interface it with a JES talkgroup if need be.+

Also, just a point of clarification.

Toronto Fire doesn't have any in-subway repeaters. They use an 800MHz simplex channel which is repeated by a mobile repeater located in a District Chief van on the surface. The signal is then transmitted from the DC truck on a UHF frequency back to the system.

Only Police and EMS have frequencies repeated in the subway. Interestingly enough, CSIS and RCMP have a frequency repeated down there too...
