Just heard Dispatch advise should we send 11 Tom units on ID 2333. What are these units ? I have never heard of them before.
Within South King County, Valley Police agency units which begin with 11 are mental health/social worker-type staff. They are not commissioned police. So, "11 Tom" units would be any of those type of staff within "Tom" which is Tukwila.
"David units" are NOT detectives within valley police. Those units would be Des Moines Police.
"Paul units" are also NOT traffic units within valley police. Those are Pacific Police.
Furthermore, within valley police "Sam units" are NOT sergeants. Sergeants callsigns begin with 6.
Units that begin with 7 are the traffic units--NOT "Tom".
Here is the full breakdown for ALL south-end King County municipal Valley Police agencies, callsigns beginning the following numbers:
1 - Day Shift
2 - Swing Shift
3 - Graveyard Shift
4 - Specialty Detectives
5 - Detectives
6 - Sergeants
7 - Traffic Units
8 - CSO, CEO, Animal Control, Court Marshall, etc.
9 - Off-duty unit/personal identifier
10 - Command Staff
11 - Mental Health/Social Workers/Crisis Response (non-commissioned)
Corporals and drone pilots do not have any special designator.
David - Des Moines (K-9 6x)
King - Kent (K-9 1x)
William - Federal Way (K-9 5x)
Boy - Black Diamond
Tom - Tukwila (K-9 2x)
Robert - Renton (K-9 3x)
Paul - Pacific
Lincoln - Algona
Adam - Auburn (K-9 4x)
Normandy Park - Nora (on NP TG, Paul is Bothell, either Frank or Lincoln, I think, is Lake Forrest Park (forgot which), Ida is Mercer Island)
So "10 Boy 1" would be Black Diamond Chief of Police. "7 Robert xxx" would be a Renton PD traffic unit. "6 Paul xxx" would be a Pacific Police sergeant.
Much misinformation above that is conjecture, speculation and/or otherwise not accurate as it applies to valley police agencies. Some of the terms above *may* (or used to) apply to other police agencies, however--although "Sam units" within SPD are *not* sergeants. "Paul units" within SPD are parking enforcement.
Within King County Sheriff, "Paul" units would be "proactive" team members/detectives.
Eastside Police, Valley Police, Seattle Police and King County Sheriff all use different callsign configurations. I'm not as familiar with how Eastside Police agency callsigns work, but think they are more-similar to Valley Police agencies.
You can find all King County Sheriff's via their GOM--last time I checked.
