Tuning on top busy net?

What's the deal with tuning right in the middle of an active net? Is it just poor operators or are they trying to cause QRM? When I need to use my old manual tuner I will first listen for a bit and see if the frequency is active and if it is I will move up 3Khz and switch to RTTY mode for the tuning.

I recently got my SDRplay running and had the thought I have everything needed to double check my output signal and make sure it's not getting into the busy net.

What I did was switch the tuner to use the internal dummy load then put the SDRplay on the same frequencies and keyed up using low power and the RTTY mode and sure enough the tone was there. Then I re-tested after moving the transceiver up 3Khz and the tone was gone. This is real easy to do and the +3Khz will not make a difference on the tuner settings. The RTTY mode also has a wider filter and SSB can be heard if the +3Khz frequency gets busy.

If I was good at math all this could have been figured out but using the SDRplay was a lot more fun :)

Update - I forgot about LSB vs USB. +3Hhz on LSB and -3Hhz on USB will completely clear the tone out of the busy frequency.

Maybe somebody trying to cause QRM, maybe not. You have to remember that HF is not like a net on a repeater where you hear everyone. There have been many times where I have listened to a frequency for a couple minutes, heard nobody, and started transmitting, only to be told by another op that a net was in progress. And sure enough, there was. I just couldn't hear all the players.

My radios have good automatic notch filters. I let them deal with the tuner-uppers.

Unfortunately it's a fact of life if you SSB DX on HF. Nearly every pile-up features several operators who don't give a damn about anyone else. Apparently moving 3 kHz to tune and then moving back is too much trouble. One reason I chose resonant antennas.

These people are the same mentality as people that back out of a parking space at Costco, blocking traffic, and then they start putting on their seatbelt and plugging in their phone and of course, look at themselves in the mirror before...finally getting the hell out of the way. There is a mental crosswire in their tiny brains that make them think they are the only people on the planet that matter.

Just because you have an amateur license doesn't mean you know what you are doing. Or that you care. I'm a good example of that.
The way I see it is I have been an amateur radio operator for over 25 years, if I was any good I would have turned pro years ago ;-)
