This may not be a good idea, but I want to throw it out there and get some opinions. I have a scanner and a vhf mobile that I use for the Fire Department mounted in my vehicle with a vhf antenna mounted on the roof. I don't want to drill another hole. My question is, is there a splitter or combiner that I can use to put these two radios on that one antenna??? I know there has to be something to keep the tx power to the antenna and not to the scanner so I dont fry it, but I am not sure how to do it. Any ideas?? Thanks -CHRIS

Dual Antenna same Connector ....

YEs you can do that
There are some comapanies that make them.
Have as of yet to try it..
I imagine it would only weaken the signals in genaral
For example when I was A kid I would "make and cut my own headphones out of boredom
Once a I made four HEadphones ( 2 pairs into one "jack")
Well they all worked except the sound in general was lower oppossed to just one pair into one jack....
Therefore, I imagine the same "theory" applies.

Here is one example:

Retails around $10.

Sorry Cristis. but I gotta tell the guy NOT to use that!

It's a basic splitter. That's all.

YOU WILL MOST DEFINITELY FRY THE SCANNER IF THAT IS USED TO COMBINE THE TWO IN TO ONE ANTENNA!

There really isn't much of a practical way to do it. The problem is the scanner is broad banded. A DUPLEXER could be used but it would only isolate bands ie: Vhf from Uhf. If you were transmitting on Vhf and the scanner stopped on a frequency within a passband on that port then there's a definite possibility of RF getting into the scanner.

Your best bet is to use two separate antennas and keep them a few feet apart.

Two Radios, One Antenna

Yeah I know it isn't going to be as easy as combining two ant. wires into one, as that I know would fry the scanner. I just thought I would throw it out there to see what everyone thought, really don't want to drill another hole, and I don't like the reception I get with a through the glass antenna. Any other ideas??
