I'll start by saying I know almost nothing about scanning. I have an SDS100 I had programmed, to include Montgomery County.

Looking at the database, TxWARN > Montgomery County Sheriff and Montgomery County Constable - both have unencrypted TGs. Is there a reason why my SDS100 never receives anything from those 2 departments? Well, let me rephrase and say the other day I heard 1 short call from one of those LE departments (can't remember which one). Other than that 1, it's always just FD/EMS calls on TxWARN.

I've also tried listening to MOCO LE on those "free" apps and it's complete silence.

Montgomery County who has some unencrypted TGs very rarely use them for LEO purposes. The constable dispatch TGs are listed as unencrypted but actually use the Supervisor channels that are encrypted. I only hear them on the interoperability, emergency management, district attorney, the various precincts. but even then it is rare.

Even the free apps can't decrypt the transmissions.

On my feed I don't even include Montgomery County because I find the automated dispatch voice extremely annoying!

@Enforcer52 - thank you for clarifying. As a new user it's always difficult to understand if I'm doing something wrong or if it's something else. And yeah, that computer dispatch is definitely annoying!

Feel free to contact me anytime you have a question about our surrounding area.

Thanks for your help! I just scan Harris and MOCO. I'm starting to learn (slowly) it really helps to have favorite lists for different agencies. That precinct 4 up north is a beast from east-to-west!

The North end of Harris County stays really busy.

Favorite lists with quick keys setup is great once you learn how to setup and use.

Montgomery County has unified dispatch. It's all dispatched by area rather than department. The Constable dispatch talk groups are not used for that....... and they are encrypted in spite of what RR reports. The only place you are going to hear MC law enforcement is on Ops 1 - 3 during some events.

There is one other place you might hear activity from MCSO , TXWARN has interop channels for different zones , in some rare situations you might hear them on these doing special operations with other agencies, this is common on these channels not saying I have heard MCSO on these channels just saying it's a possibility

I have a source in the Harris county LE family that is telling me that 2025 will be the year that the HCSO will switch over to encryption but they won't provide me with any further details

This makes sense. I rarely hear them but every now and then I'll catch a handful of communication if I'm around The Woodlands or Conroe area. Very rare though.

When I have a chance I'm going to look at the interop channels. Thanks so much!

Oh wow that's a game changer if they do. All that would be left open would be HPD right?

The person who told me this is a retired HC constable , he still is involved with LE but the way he put it is the sheriff's office is considering switching over possibly soon but there are some details they have to work out and that was it. I couldn't get anything further. If I find out anything further I will pass it along. No word about HPD
