Hi...

I've replaced my Radio Shack Pro-95 with a Pro-96 because local systems recently went digital.

I've copied frequencies and talkgroups from a Win95 programming file to a Win96 file. But I have problems: only two of the old frequencies have any traffic. And none of the talkgroup ID's the scanner is showing me match those in the current database. The database seems out of date.

So does anyone know where I might find the new information? Haven't been able to find it with an exhaustive Google search.

As the TXWarn system in Tyler is a P25 system, the re-banding issue is not relevant. What is relevant; however, is that a PRO-96/2096 is not capable of trunk tracking in the 700 MHz spectrum. As long as all the frequencies you are monitoring are in the 800 MHz (Tyler Simulcast for example) then it should work. If the tower that you are attempting to monitor is using the 700 MHz frequencies, you will have to get a different scanner.

I finally got good results by programming in a system called Simulcast. I did not realize that the system was no longer on ETMC (East Texas Medical Center) system and that fact was not obvious on the RadioReference/TxWarn Project 25 page. I think those pages should keep newbies in mind and explain things a little clearer.

I have one more quick question: how are the two columns, with five round boxes for selecting something and five square boxes for checkmarks, directly left of the Alpha Tag box in Win96, supposed to be used? Couldn't find in the Win96 help file or Google.

I am guessing you are referring to the radio buttons and check boxes next to the Talk Group area?? (Try a better description next time) If so they refer to the 5 talk group "banks" within any actual "bank" that contain talk groups. The check marks refer to whether they are on or off.

That's kinda what I thought. And yes, I did get a little verbose and fuzzy. Also I think an idiot wrote the Win96 help file!

Thanks.

I think you just did not look hard enough, the explanation is right there in the Win96 Help file: Select The Data Entry Pages then Channels and Talk Groups and then scroll to the bottom of the help window (right screen). Under the topic Talk Group ID List you will see three bullet points, just below the third bullet point (LOut) the explanation of your question is addressed.

All in all, I think Don did a pretty good job of supplying a detailed explanation of (what at the time was an very advanced radio (in 2003)), the various functions available in that radio. It is a little long in the tooth and yet he continues to update it and keep the software rolling along.
