Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at the TYT TH-UVF1P for a dual band equivalent of my current Wouxun KG-UVD1P rig. I'm having great luck with the Wouxun, but was looking for the selcall 1+1 or "two-tone" capability for use with my FD and my ambulance squad. I'm currently using the Wouxun for this, which it is working well, but I'm hearing all the traffic on dispatch.
I have seen a few videos of the TYT on YouTube, and it looks pretty solid. Has anyone here had any experience with the rig? It looks like the price point is about the same as the Wouxun, and the radio operates within specs (per the videos from guerrillageek).
I'm sure there are many moto, kenwood equivalents, but let's be honest, I'd like good functionality for a personally owned unit, without the moto price.

Thanks in advance!

What were you comparing the signal reception to? I only own Chinese radios at the moment. Until I find something that is really ideal for me, I'll stick to the cheapies..

The TYT is definitely a good buy at the price point. It has solid transmit and receive, I haven't heard a bad signal report yet. Just a warning though, the programming and controls on this radio are very confusing. Other than that, the radio is great. All the parts are built well and don't seem flimsy at all. I like how the battery clips in, you get a satisfying *Click*. :)

My thoughts exactly. Everything I've heard about the radio leads me to believe that the radio is a pain to program manually. However if programmed through the software, it is easy as pie. I currently own 2 Puxing px888s and 1 Wouxun kg-uvd1p. It seems like the Chinese radios all have the similar downfall of poor documentation, however once past that "hurdle" they work fine. I have the software and cable for PX and Wouxun, and i just downloaded the TYT software as well.

Once i figure out the best setup for me (both EMS and business use) I'll invest in a USA made radio group. Until then, i can play with 5 Chinese radios to figure out my wants and needs, and still be under the cost of a commercial USA made HT.

Thanks all for the replies!

Well, some updates for everyone.

I had a little trouble getting the software to connect to the radio on my windoze7 machine. Not sure if it's because it's 64 bit or what, but after some prolific driver updates on my XP machine, I was able to get the programming to take..

As far as build quality.. It looks pretty decent, and worth every penny at a cheap $112.00 shipped. I'm hoping the battery will last a little longer than my Wouxun kguvd1p.

Features I like on the first two hours of ownership...

1.) Two-tone! I don't really care what's going on 26 miles from me.... Well, that's not true, I guess I just want to hear it some of the time, not always. With the two tone, the radio (should) open up when the two tone I programmed in is transmitted.

2.) Screws holding the belt clip on are nice. I'm concerned I'll ahniliate the plastic retainers on my other HTs.

All in all after a little tinkering, it seems above average build quality for the cost. I'm sure there's a yaesu HT out there Thad better, but I can buy 3 of these for 1 of those.. And that's a bargain I can deal with!

Nice radios! On the TYT, Did you paint the faceplate or did it come like that stock? Looks really nice! I'm interested in doing that to mine.

Nice, you got the red one! I also had a bit of trouble getting the software to "take." It's better if you ignore the "read me" directions and install it like any other program. I similarly think the build quality is very nice for a cheapie.

I don't know what your experience with battery life will be, but from my experience, monitoring and transmitting on the radio, I get a couple days out of the battery.
