Back in Feb 2022, I posted a thread: Transmitter Hunting Way Up North.
I was Northwest of Snowville in Box Elder County, and I was receiving all of the sites
from Salt Lake, Davis, & Weber counties and then some. Trying to locate a new site
was impossible with all of the transmissions I was receiving.
I thought that I would be way out of range of those sites.
So, I tried a new trick for transmitter hunting on 700 MHz.
I programmed every 700 Mhz public safety freq into my WS1040.
I identified each one as to what UCA sites used them.
So when I'm driving, I can search for any sites that are receivable in any area.
This is what I have discovered so far:
Albion Basin at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon is receivable all along South Jordan Parkway.
Go a mile north or south of the parkway and reception drops.
Driving along 4800 west, at about 7800 South, Lewis Peak comes in strong.
It was strong enough for Unitrunker to load it when parked at Park Village Park 7630 South.
The map shows the transmitter site is north of Wanship in Summit County.
My SDS100 also got reception from Weber Simul at 7000 South 4800 West. (CC & voice)
But the signal was too weak for trunker to decode. When I traveled north on 4800
to Kearns High School, with a clear line-of -sight across the Great Salt Lake,
There was no reception of Weber Simul.
Scotts Peak has good reception in Orem. I don't travel that much in Utah County,
so I can't say how much coverage Scotts Peak provides. It was carrying lots of Utah County traffic.
Scotts Peak is located near the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon
