i built the x-wing antenna and used the winegard lna-200 boost xt rf amp, you get the mast mounted amp plus the bias tee that is powerd by an included 5v wall wart, . this setup has worked for me and has proven to be a reliable way to monitor the 200mhz satcom spectrum , way less expensive that the portable mil spec antennas and easy to build.

I never needed a preamp, even with a cheapo radio like Quansheng UV-K5 8
