• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I received an APX8000 for Christmas. I am unable to load a software system key. I have verified that there are no ASK's present. Radio Reference says that the system ID for the system I want to listen to is 348. I downloaded the system key generator and created a file which is SYS00348.KEY. I located that file in the default directory C:/Program Data?Motorola/SysKeys, as listed in the Tools section of the CPS. When I try to load the key, it flags an error that says the key does not contain a valid system ID. The firmware is 27.03.00, and I am using CPS 31.01.

Does anyone have any ideas? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind of a hot potato here.. What you are asking is akin to being considered illegal. You want to use a system key to access the trunking system. Even if you are trying to NAS. In most justidctions having that key is considered computer tampering. There has been cases where people have been proscuted for illegally accessing the system. If you have a legit reason to use it. The proper thing to do is contact the system admin..

And if you only listen to FDMA TG's you don't even need a system key. ;)

Remember, you never know whos watching these forums.... I suggest contacting MARCS if you have a legit reason to have a radio on the system.
(In the Dave Hester voice)...YUUUUUPPP. We sure do pay attention so we have a heads up when we see those bogus RIDs and duplicate alerts from GenWatch we save time IDing the culprits. Then we inhibit and wait for the "my radio turns on then off" thread to appear. Target located!

123, 0123, 00123...these are all different things. And make different keys, if you use those numbers for that purpose.

You talk too much. This is an open forum, easily searchable. Hello, HEAT SCORE.

You could have asked the same thing without giving ANY specific information that targets you to your general area or system of interest.

"My key 00111 shows as invalid. Help?" That's all you had to write. Not even use the correct key number.

No key required if sticking to Phase 1 (non FDMA) talkgroups anyway. As mentioned above.

Its amazing the information that someone will give up isn't it? Notice how we knew (without him saying) what hes trying to program?!

My grandfather, in his day, was the chief investigator for the Alabama State Police. He had a sterling reputation, was superb at his job, and had he lived to this day and age, would be utterly gobsmacked at how this internet thing makes it so easy for people to publicly incriminate themselves, and how often people actually DO IT.

What amazes me most is that an individual can get so far as to acquire the radio, get the system information, perform basic programming of the radio in CPS, obtain skeygen.exe, configure a VM or something to get it to run (Win 10/11 is out), but then gets stuck actually creating the key, AND rather than continue using their technical skills (obviously there must be some), comes to a forum and looks like a moron.

Just look for that 4096-skeys.zip file -- its out there...
