So I live about 5 miles from the Jefferson county line (Louisville). I am able to pick up the EMS / Fire dispatch for Jefferson Co. just fine but I am unable to pick up the police for both my county (Bullitt) and Jefferson.

The only one I can pick up is in Jefferson / Louisville
152.00750 WPBI942 RM JeffCoFDDSP Suburban Fire Dispatch

I have a Pro-528
(Bullitt County, Kentucky (KY) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference for my county, Jefferson County, Kentucky (KY) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference for Jefferson)

I am assuming that since all of the counties around me are on a trunk system then both my sheriff dept. and city police are also. I have no idea how to set up trunk tracking properly.

I guess what I am asking is how would I set up my scanner, the Pro-528, to be able to pick up those frequencies. I do not have a cable for it (don't want to spend $30 on a cable).

You should be able to receive all of the Bullitt County frequencies on the scanner you have. They remain on conventional VHF frequencies.

Unfortunately Jefferson County has migrated to a digital 800 trunked radio system. Your scanner cannot deal with digital "stuff".

You receive that Jefferson County Fire Dispatch frequency as it remains the primary alerting means for firefighters. All communications after the dispatch are done on the digital system. Also still in use for interoperability purposes is the VHF Mutual Aid frequency of 154.295. However that's only active if, for example, Zoneton comes into Jefferson County to assist with a fire. Then a patch between the fire talkgroup and mutual aid channel is created for the incident.

They have also patched one of the EMS talkgroups to an "old" UHF frequency (Med 10) for interoperability purposes. That's why you hear at least some of the EMS communications.

Weird.. I was able to pick up Jefferson county police dispatch along with my county by going outside with the scanner on trunk scan (with frequencies entered).
When I came back in I couldn't pick up the fire dispatch very well (picked up fine a few days ago).

I'm convinced it has a mind of it's own lol.

The police may be patching some of their talkgroups to one of the old VHF/UHF channels.

You should not have a problem with suburban fire dispatch. If I remember correctly, they are using five simulcast sites on 152.0075. One is at Mitchell Hill and another at Fern Creek Fire station two. They did that about 5 years ago to beef up the pager coverage. However it is possible one of the sites was off the air for maintenance purposes.
