I’m new to P2 scanning. I had it programmed for all of New York State and Monroe County. I don’t normally hear to much. The display toggles between MONROE TAC COUNTY and LAW ENFORCEMENT TAC COUNTY. I’m not sure if this is scanning all P2 frequencies within these peramiters. Is there any way of telling. BCD325P2.
Thanks

well most of the sites there are simulcast and the 325 does not do well with that.
you might want to get the uniden SDS 100 or 200 as they do better.
so you might be missing a lot.

Simulcast systems unfortunately require the use of a scanner that can properly decode the signal. This requires the use of a receiver that can demodulate Digital I/Q. The Uniden SDS100 and SDS200 can, as well as the Unication pager receivers and the P25RX device.

There is nothing bad or wrong with your BCD325P2. It just cant properly decode a simulcast system. With it, at times you will receive clear transmissions, garbled transmissions, or nothing.

Using a scanner capable of decoding P25 Phase 2, you just program the system as P25 and it will receive both Phase 1 and Phase 2 transmissions. As stated earlier, older design scanners may have problems receiving simulcast systems depending upon your location in relation to the towers. The only scanners specifically designed to receive simulcast systems are the Uniden SDS100 handheld and SDS200 base/mobile. The Unication G4 and G5 pagers are also excellent but have limited scanning capabilities.

The BCD325P2 is a great little scanner. I use mine almost daily, and there's plenty of radio traffic that can be monitored in Monroe County using one. Unfortunately, the new P25 system isn't in that category. You *might* be lucky enough to live in a location where the BCD325P2 will work, but chances are you aren't. I also live on the west side of the county and my BCD325P2 won't even lock onto the control channel.

You said you had it programmed, I'm guessing by the dealer? Do you have programming software?

If you want to listen to the local PD's or Sheriff, you can program in the older UHF channels. The legacy UHF repeaters are still active at this point.
Brockport has a Monroe County P25 West Simulcast tower located in the rear of the Village DPW.
I would try turning off all the sites other than the west one and then try using the attenuator if that radio has one.
Mt 396XT does a fair job picking up the system but only decodes the P1 TG's, (normally most of the fire side).

You can tell P2 transmissions because instead of P25 the scanner shows "PTOand PT1" ,.....
