I recall some tine ago , I put a TAP on my PRO97...Uni worked VERY WELL !!

Now , I see that UNI does not need a TAP…I now have a Pro96 , I have my line in active to computer and head phone out of scanner…NO SIGNAL ?

I checked the CC to see if that was weak , shows 99% .

When I downloaded UNI ( recent version ) I didn’t see a .EXE , unless it makes that in Program files ?

Being away from UNI so long , Im new all over again…any help , would be great !

Do I stop my pro96 on the controll channel while UNI is running ?

Current version in Program files “ RETRO “ Version , again NO SIGNAL /

** Also the system Im trying to look at with UNI is a VHF Trunk / apco 25 ***

Thx for any and all help

I'm pretty sure you do need a tap for UniTrunker, unless (a) you're monitoring an MPT1327 system (whose data is plain enough to be heard on filtered earphone audio) or (2) you are using the data-out feature of the new GREs or the upcoming new Unidens.

Unitrunker works great for that - all you need is a tapped scanner.

It's not the program that can't handle the earphone output from a scanner, it's the earphone output that's the problem. The earphone output (and the speaker output, etc) uses a circuit that filters the sound so it's suitable for our listening. One of the things that the circuit filters out is the important information needed for the trunking programs to decode the trunk data. That's what a 'tap' does, is give you the audio at a point in the circuit before the filter does its work.

Thx jay , I am aware of the clean audio from a TAP vs audio out....

But there has or were progs that used the Sound Card ( SB ) to decode many thing , I think Uni states it does work without a tap.

Just to be clear - Unitrunker does not support the "CC dump" feature of the PRO96. The CC dump feature of this radio is limited to P25 systems. Unitrunker does support the CC dump feature of the newer "inline" radios (radios supporting decode and control over the same interface).

You can decode MPT1327 systems from headphone audio. For other decoding modes - you will want either discriminator audio or an inline capable radio.

Ok I may have misunderstood the UNI Site then , thx for clearing that up.

Which reminds me , the system ( once I tap a scanner for this very soon )

The system im looking to Monitor with UNI is a VHF APCO 25 TRUNK SYSTEM - VHF

I noticed the settings were 800 Mhz, splinter etc...anyways to set things up for ( I did this b4 in a version of UNI but cant recall the version )

In 2007 I think I used UNI with GREAT Success !!

Zon, I'm 99% sure that you're trying to use Unitrunker on Ontario's FleetNet system. That one is not a true "P25" or "APCO 25" system - it's a Motorola Smartzone system with digital voice. That might seem like nitpicking, but it will affect how you program it. All you should really have to do is set it up in your Unitrunker files as "Motorola" and it should work. (I think you said you are using the older version of Unitrunker - I don't remember the configs off the top of my head, as I'm using the newest release.)

I was in Ontario last August and successfully ran UT on several sizes across three of the four zones of FleetNet. You have to provide the frequency details once it starts receiving data, IIRC, but other than that, you just hook up the receiver and let it run away.

JAY : UNI TRUNKER is now TRACKING the P25 just fine...minor config error on my part...Matter of fact I have TRUNK88 and Uni Trunker running at the same time now ...both spit out the same data...kinda neat to watch the system this way...

Unitrunker does all of it's decoding through the sound card and does not need a data slicer, if that is what you are wondering.

K8TEK : Yes I am aware , I used UNI ahh about 3 yrs ago ish maybe less....I got good at it , but forgot things over time...

I do have a TAP on my Pro96 , which just opens the door for other programs besides Uni to run.
Trunk88 is a GREAT program , so what UNI does not have , trunk88 does and visa versa...kinda like one GREAT program !!

I have now dedicated an older laptop to 88 - Uni for this purpose to assist in further ID'ing a system here ( P25) thats all there is where I live.
