If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

I have a APX radio that I have long used for monitoring and listening only and have been seriously considering the G5 as my next radio. I would like to know if the G5 allows scanlist edits "on-the-fly" without using the program.

For example, I want to nuisance delete a channel / talkgroup while keeping the radio in scan mode for the 10 other talkgroups I would like to monitor.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can block a talkgroup in the scan mode. It will blocked until you back to that knob position.

I think there are some settings that will remove the block in certain amount of time, but never used those settings.

Also have a hold function that works the same way ans you can unhold from a talkgroup.

No really way to edit scanlists without a computer.

As mentioned, perhaps in the Unication world " editing on the Fly" is an over reach, you can temporary block and or hold a talk group. There s a time limit on the hold feature.

There s a time limit on the hold feature.

The hold feature must have some user settings. I had the hold on for hours and hours on end mainly, due to operator error on my part with leaving it on and falling asleep. Stayed on for hours and was still on when I looked my G4 or G5.

The hold time can be set to between 0 and 99 seconds. A setting of 0 will hold until you unhold. This setting can be changed on the unit if you have talkgroup hold on in the software.

You can hold on a talk group while in a trunking system. During conventional scan, you can 'stay', which is holding a channel. However, you can only 'block' aka nuisance delete a talk group, but not a conventional channel while scanning. There is no temporary way to remove a conventional channel from the scan list.
