If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Not sure if this is really a fair comparison but I took my G5 with the new FW Version 2.02 up against a Harris Unity XG-100P on a couple of my local systems just to test their responsiveness on P25 Phase 2. I notice that there has been some improvement in audio quality and less audio breakup than the previous Version 1.41. With voice buffering set to ON or OFF the G5 does a decent job of keeping up with the other professional radio. Still, I'm noticing the first few syllables of transmissions are cut off on the G5 on either setting. In the PPS I do have each talkgroup Alert Mode set to TONE and Tone set to NONE as the PPS suggests for the best reception speed. Perhaps Voice Buffering set to OFF is a little better...maybe??? Still needs more testing. It's a little annoying, but overall an improvement to how the G5 pager performed on Version 1.41. Are there any other settings I should consider??

Here are 3 videos of the devices in action.

Disable voice buffering on your G5... Pretty certain that's what you're hearing. I know you said it doesn't seem to matter, but that's exactly what it sounds like.

As @lebrunmn said I'd try and disable voice buffering. Frankly that video is pretty impressive on the Unication's part. At least in my humble opinion. I had an opportunity to to check one against a motorola subscriber radio here, and it was almost too close to live in the difference between what the motorola heard and the unicaiton heard. The main difference was the Motorola had more audio output but other than that, was neck and neck.

Yea it's probably really not fair to compare a Unication to a radio, but I figure I haven't seen too many of these videos and I wanted to see just what I was missing or not on the Unication. Reception is decent. That one system i posted only the Harris radio can pick up well enough compared to any other radio or scanner I have.

But I don't think Voice Buffering would cause the beginning of voice calls to be missed/cut off altogether. Voice Buffering would just delay the timing of when you start hearing the voice call, I believe.
