Just before 1930UTC Mon Jan 9th here in Alaska, I caught a signal replaying a loop of island-y type music over and over and over again... was quite strong and clear...no liners, station id's and nothing listed on or Short-wave.info and nothing in HFCC Raw data last updated Jan 5th for B22.

What is this?

I just looked at all three EiBi lists I've got saved -- A22, B21, B22 -- nothing shows on 9595 kHz in that time slot. Looks like a mystery.

Only stations I show using that frequency are Vatican Radio and Turkey, but not in that time slot.

How was your propagation otherwise? If it was Asia-heavy at that hour, it might have been from Asia.

I'm almost positive its neither of those.. it sounded too crisp and clear to be Turkey.

The "island-y" music could've easily; been confused for music from the African continent.

It also behaved kinda skywave-y, and not strong like target area transmissions

Vatican Radio has used 9595

as already mentioned in this thread by one user, to which i replied.. i dont think it was them.. if and when they fill, which is never for a full hour, as none of their transmissions in any language are an hour.. they fill with something else. ive heard teh french service run 10-12 mintues short and fill with a simulcast of a vatican owned FM music station

You know, there are some DX mysteries. And you may have tuned into one.

Vatican Radio operates on 9595 kHz from Tinang, Philippines, using 250KW transmitters. 1900+ UTC would still give you good propagation to SE Asia on the 31 Meter band. Maybe it was a test transmission of some kind, or someone hit the wrong button at the transmitter.

Just a guess, because searches bring up nothing on that freq in that time slot. And unless you've got a pirate nearby, I wouldn't think a US pirate would make it to Alaska on that range of frequencies at that hour.

Found this info (about the 250KW transmitter location) on Shortwave Schedule website.:
