I have not tried to charge any batteries in the 436 for a long time. I put some rechargeable batteries in the scanner and set the scanner to charge, I come back, and on the screen of the scanner it says Battery error. I check the scanner and it says 4.40v so I be leave it's a full charge but why does it say Battery error on the screen.

In a previous thread, Paul said that can be caused by a bad cell. Suggest trying another set of batteries.
OK I will try another set of batteries; these ones are a bit old and have not been used for a long time, thanks for the reply.

These kind of Batteries are either NICD or NIMH if they drop down to zero, especially older ones, the cannot charge anymore basically they are dead. Fresh batteries (rechargeable) the best way to elongated their life is to make sure they do not drop down to zero. The only batteries that can charge like this are lithium. Only drawback of Li batteries is that they need an external Li charger.

Thanks, I just got rid of the batteries, they were sitting around for over a year, I will buy new ones to be on the safe side.
