Uniden 796 issue

WHY IS THERE NO OFFICIAL 796 DISCUSSION GROUP?

Now on to my question.

Has anyone been experiencing the 796 stopping on a talkgroup and no audio, and if you wiggle the volume knob it starts to work? Then when you continue to scan it just stops on it and trys to recieve but its like it cant?

I am having this issue, I have tried to ajust the volume controls by pressing 9 while someone is talking, but it is not clearing the issue up. Does Uniden know that this problem exists? I am about ready to sell this thing and get another 2096, at least I am not having any problems with it!!!

Anyone with this problem if you care to comment on ONLY THIS PROBLEM I will appriciate it very much

There is an automatic digital tuning option on the 796D that I have used before that seems to work well. But for the life of me, I can't remember the key combos to activate it. I'm sure someone else on here knows.

Not hearing any audio at all like that is usually a sound quality issue setting. Mine is currently set at 633 1985 3242 and seems to do doing well on the MPSCS system.

I have done all the updates, I have owned this radio for almost 6 months now......

*UPDATE*

I played around with the settings and changed out my 3db antenna to a unity gain 2 inch 800 antenna. I am pretty sure it is an attenna problem!! So I am going to be ordering a new one(this spring everything will be getting perminatly installed)

Automatic setting is as follows. During a communication press and hold 9 and then press priority. Now some one tell me why that is not in the manual along with allot of other stuff?

NOTE: I own the 296. This might work for the 796.

A good antenna is critical. If you live in a tri level house like I do and your down stares this is up most important.

Pressing the PRI would be the operation for auto tuning. The auto tune is not in the manual but the operation should be the same.
