Welcome to the RR forums. It would help if you provided agency specifics so I/we can get eyes on the database to see if the BC350A is the right tool for the job. Hoping for your friend's sake agencies are analog conventional as this is all this scanner is capable of receiving

It's not PC programmable. Keep in mind the model is over 30 years old and scanners & systems have greatly evolved since then

Good Enough thanks for replying....He is wanting to pick up a few Van Buren County Iowa Fire depts. and then Scotland County Mo. Fire & EMS I think most of those frequencies are analog but i could be wrong.

Yup, I skimmed the database for both counties. What's been documented for both counties' fire & EMS are indeed analog
conventional. Assuming DB is still accurate, the BC350A should be able to pick everything up fine

Ok Great... So is this unit supposed to work out of the box? Do they come preprogrammed or how does that work. Does the Memolock Switch on the back do anything?

I've never owned one but I'm certain they're far simpler to program & operate than the current gen of scanners

From manual provided above:
