Just purchased a BC355C scanner, live in Pittsboro IN and I am unable to get any reception at all. Stopped to purchase a different antenna, took the radio to "town" compared to where I live and still nothing... it seems as though I am not able to pick up any emergency calls or local Police, Fire or Ambulance....
Have called Uniden 3 times, still not assistance
Getting ready to return this scanner....would appreciate any advice

I used the frequency list off of this website....when I get close to what my frequencies "should be" the scanner skips over them...basically getting nothing local at all....Is this scanner digital??? could that be the issue?? I am new to this but enjoy listening to the scanners..was thinking of returning this scanner and purchasing one from Radio Shack where I can try it out first. Unless there is a quick fix....

It looks like Hendricks County works mostly on the Hoosier SAFE-T statewide system now, which that scanner cannot decode. The scanner that you purchased, if I'm not mistaken, is only for conventional frequencies (i.e. non-trunking), where as SAFE-T is a digital trunked system.

The problem is that the Uniden 355C is a analog only.Hendricks County is on safe-t.In order to hear Hendriicks County you will need a Digital scanner to hear what is going on in the county.Your analog scanner will pick 154.130 for Hendricks County fire for the runs for paging out the calls but in order to hear the enitre call with the dispathcer and the unit responding to the call will be heard on Safe-t. If you have any questions please feel free to send me a pm and I will be glad to help. I have family that lives in Pittsboro and Brownsburg.Thank You.

Finally, some people with answers! Thank you so much to everyone!
I found a couple of hand held radios at Radio Shack but not sure they would do the trick for Hendricks county as well...since I am new to the radios, I am looking for inexpensive till I can learn more about them. RS has a pro 104 handheld...I have to go by there this evening to return the additional antennae I purchased. Please advise how I can be sure which ever radio I do purchase I will be able to utilize with the Safe T system????

Can you verify the model number of the scanner you're interested in? I can't find any record of a Radioshack PRO-104 scanner having been produced.

Digital Scanners

If your looking for a portable the PSR-500 and the 396XT are great. You'll have to look into how you want to program it because it requires a bit more expertise to program one of these radios. You can always take a look at pre-programmed radios like the Home Patrol, might be easier for you to use.

Kquilter, RS 404 is Not digital. Please e-mail me direct at W9nes@Comcast.net. What you need is a Radio Shack Pro-96 Handheld or a Radio Shack Pro-2096 Base/Mobile. I also own a Uniden 396XT and a Uniden Home Patrol Hp-1. You are welcome to stop by the Norhwest Communications Center anytime to show you what you can hear with a digital scanner for Hendricks and surrounding couties
