Hello. I am looking at POSSIBLY purchasing a Uniden BC92XLT scanner, but I am mainly interested in a scanner that can pick up TALKGROUPS. Does anyone know off hand if this particular scanner can pick those up, or is this just a normal police scanner? I figured for $100, it's not a bad deal at all, as long as it does and picks up what I want. Thanks, and Happy Holidays, all!

That scanner doesn't do trunking so it's not what you want.
You need a BC246T if you want a Uniden like the 92 or a Radio Shack
Pro-97, Pro-164, Pro-528, Or the GRE PSR-300 (Like the RS Pro-164 but a better buy IMHO)

You're better off asking all these questions in the Alaska forum.

Anyway, the best scanner you can buy right now is one that does trunking and P25 digital. Even though some of the stuff you want to listen to still in analog conventional, they will switch to digital in the near future.

So a few of the handheld models you need to consider, actually the best two out there will be: Uniden BCD396T or the GRE PSR-500. I know they're expensive but there's no way around it. It's better to save for one of those than buy a cheaper scanner now that will be no good for digital trunking later.
