Quick question for those who know more than I do. I am in Weld County Colorado and I am struggling to monitor the sheriffs department and any other talk group in the FRCC. Is my scanner not capable?? Any help is appreciated!!

Weld County is simulcast which the 325P2 is not designed to handle efficiently like the SDS100/200. You might want to experiment with moving the scanner to various locations and see if that helps. Or depending on how far away you are from the tower, sometimes less antenna is better on simulcast. Some folks even use a paper clip for an antenna. Again move the scanner around, often a short movement will make a big difference.

You might want to read this simulcast wiki:

my 325 would do 1/4 second of voice and then 1/4 second of silence when at home.
it works fine all around the county.
so i use that when out and have the SDS100 at home, the wife takes that one out when we go out.
you can never have too many radios !

Are you getting something some of the time or nothing all of the time? Does it change if you move the scanner around or take it with you somewhere else? Getting bits and pieces would be simulcast distortion, but getting nothing could be a programming issue.

How are you programming your scanner?

My BCD325P2 works well around Weld county using a high gain 800 MHz antenna on the scanner. It's not as good as a BCD436HP or SDS100 scanner however it performs suprisingly well. When it rarely experiences difficulties decoding a transmission, I just hit scan and then it sounds better when it restops on that talkgroup.

You could just be in a very tough location for reception. In some areas of Weld county it is hard for any scanner to receive signals properly. Even the police/fire experience problems with their professional radios around Weld however not nearly as much as when simulcast was first rolled out.

I would recommend installing the latest firmware and then set the P25 Threshold to a level of 8. With the latest firmware installed, this setting should remain set even after the power is cycled off and back on again.

Where in Weld county are you located? Depending on your location you may be able to monitor one of the non-simulcast sites.

That was directed to the OP on where their location is.

Nunn, Niwot, Raymer, Grover, Timnath and Keenseburg sites could be an option dependent on their loacation.
