Just bought the BCD436HP. I'm am new to the scanner hobby. What does the GPS kit for? I'm thinking of getting the ARC536 programming software from ScannerMasters. It say you need to use the GPS port to use it. Anyone have any experience with this software?

You only need the GPS kit if you do a lot of traveling and want to use the zip code feature without having to put in the zip codes. It determines your location and automatically brings in channels in your area according to what service types you have on.

ProScan is a much better software to use with many more features and works with most all Uniden scanners. it is only $50 for lifetime use. Plus you can set up streaming to Broadcastify, a Web Page, or Remote over IP.

If your referring to this,

I use @ProScan and have never used the GPS port for virtual control. Did not know that could even be done. Using the programming port on the 436, my virtual works flawlessly.

Also do not see that wording on Butel's site.

I'd try the ARC536 and Pro Scan programs using the free trial option and see which works best for you.
