Uniden HP-1 Question

Hello all,

I am 100% sold on the idea of purchasing a Uniden HP, (maybe even two).

My question is simple...

If I purchased the HP-1, and lets just say, another trunking standard became available on another future Uniden model (like X2 TDMA)...(please keep in mind I am not asking for confirmation of that whatsoever)...would the HP-1 have the internal capability to monitor these systems with a firmware update to keep up with the modern formats?

I just don't want to go out and buy 2 of these impressive devices if a year later my $1000 investment became obsolete.

I think my question is valid considering it is about the capabilities of an existing scanner and a hypothetical situation combined. But that is just me. I am aware that the question sounds borderline.

Past discussions suggest that conversion to TDMA modes would require hardware upgrades.
Not likely we will see anything new until the standard is implemented enough to open a profitable market for the OEMs. Plenty to hear on the bands with current technology...enjoy.

"Obsolete" is too strong of a word to use. KD8HE's statement hints at it, but even if all of the standards were to "change" tomorrow, the current systems would still be given several years to comply, and that desn't even take into account all of the political proposed rule making that goes out before "standards" are accepted. So yes, while you wouldn't necessarily be able to monitor a "new standard", you will still have things to monitor for years to come.

Concerning P-25 Phase II, we've already be given the official word that the HP-1 does NOT have the hardware required for monitoring.
