I would like a clarification. Can any of the priority settings (996P2 has 4 per the manual) be used on trunking system or even P25 trunking systems?

Or is priority only usable for conventional channels/systems?

Per UPMans post several times Priority works on Trunking but it does not work as well as it does on Conventional Channels and it is not recommended to use it that way.

When on a trunked system it only does one prio, the TG priority for that same system that are checked when the scanner are long enough on the control channel to receive any "late entry" telegram, that often are sent out only for some key TGs.

The other prios are checked when the scanner leaves that trunked system and before it goes to the next system.

If you are asking whether the scanner interrupts an ongoing conversation to see if a priority channel is active, no it won't. That's pre-emptive priority scanning which only happens with conventional.

Joe Bearcat has said he'd like to see that changed, but so far, no luck.

In trunked systems the priority will only work on the intended talkgroup if it is also setup as priority in the actual radio system.
For 911 that will be police and fire dispatch talkgroups, other talkgroups can be as well in systems, that is the case for my area.
Be sure of course to set at the Edit Sys Option and turn on Priority ID Scan.

To check if others are also set as priority, if you know a talkgroup is active, you can set that as priority, then press HOLD and rotate the silver knob to another talkgroup. If the radio jumps over that talkgroup, then it is setup as a priority.

So while you can set a priority on any talkgroup, like a public works type, dont expect it to act as a priority.

When two or more priority talkgroups are active, the Unidens will go with the lowest talkgroup number one.

Isn’t the above limited to just Moto type ii systems and not all trunked systems?

ofd8001....That is what I believe(d) also. It only works on conventional systems in the scanner, per the owners manual, and does not mention P25 trunked systems. Not even clear if priority can be used on analog Motorola trunked systems or not. Unless you have some inside information. I have programmed a fire dispatch channel on a P25 system as a priority channel, turned on the priority settings for the system etc, but when I turn the priority on the screen shows "no channel". So I am doing something wrong or priority can't be used on P25 systems. I even had the system on "system hold" so only the system was being monitored.

This has been covered before. This is just one of many threads in regards to Conventional vs Trunking Priority:

The PRI button (FUNC/.no) option is ONLY for conventional frequencies, so if you dont have any conventionals set as priority it will say
"Priority Scan No Channel"

If you do have a conventional as a priority it will check/interrupt briefly audio, scanning for activity for that channel.
It will check the interval for # of seconds that is designated in the scanner Settings itself under "Priority Scan" at "Set Interval"

Currently the engineers are working on existing feature improvements. The only exception to this is the SDS100 keylock which I suspect was trivial to add back.

i would rather not have a hiccup
every couple of seconds and
just listen to what i have on
the radio it could lead to even
missing what is being said on
the system you don't have as priority
"report a a male with a"
is not a good way to end a
sentence.
if you really want to listen to one agency, get another radio, you can never have enough.
