I am new at this. I have a Uniden handheld BCD436HP The manual speaks of using this RadioReference for the frequency data base. HOW and WHERE is the downloadable data to transfer into the UNIDEN Sentinal programing software??? Joe WA8JLS

You load from Sentinel to the scanner after you select what you want to listen to in a favorite list. That's the short version, much more involved that what I just typed.

Sentinal already has the usa database in it. When you open it up on the left you will see USA, Canada ad favorite list. You would need to pick from the area you want to monitor. On top you will see update. Click on it to update the firmware and the data base.

Updating the Firmware is one choice, Updating the Master Database (HPDB) is another separate choice.

Firmware updates are infrequent. You would check this the first time you connect your scanner to your computer/sentinel. Then every month or two is probably enough.

Master Database updates happen, usually, once a week over the weekend. ("Usually" because sometimes there are system hiccups and a week is missed every now and then). Updating the Master Database will update the database used by Sentinel. That's the "Database" section of the left pane. It is stored in your computer. (Uniden will do a "data grab" from the Radio Reference Database once a week.)

The updated Master Database will get written to your scanner when you do a write to your scanner. Sometimes folks forget to do that and wonder why a new frequency/talkgroup "isn't there" and it should be.

You would want to update the Master Database the first time you use Sentinel as it may not have the most recent version with it.

Also you may want to be sure you are using the correct target model for your scanner. Tools>Target Model> then choose BCDx36HP since you got a BCD436.

Check page 16 in your owners manual for full instructions on updating the database and firmware in Sentinel and your scanner.

Target model has nothing to do with what gets downloaded only with which profile you want to modify. Sentinel checks to see which model you are going to download to once you hit download and then the pop-up box appears for confirmation.

Never said this was a required thing for downloading. Rather, it is for later editing and writing to the scanner. Call me an anal retentive purist if you like and being sure i's are dotted, t's are crossed and lower case j's get dotted too (lotta folks forget that one ;)).
