To those who don't know what this is - it's a ralroad line that stretches from Jefferson City west to Kansas City, running through cities like Sedlia, Warrensburg, Lee's Summit, Independence. Jefferson City/Sedalia Sub is the name of the trackage that Union Pacific operates many freight, empty coal, and intermodal trains daily. The radio channel that is used for this road is AAR channel 24 with a frequency of 160.4700.
My question is "Can anyone confirm a transmission from train to dispatcher or vice versa in the last week?" I've been listening to the railroad do its thing for a long time now. Things like Kansas City Terminal calling trains with authorization to pull down to the yard and dispatcher calling out commands to trains along the route. This happens several times throughout the day and night. But I have been unable to confirm a single transmission of any kind on that frequency for 2 weeks. Everything is programmed correctly. I've tried other freqs w/ no luck. ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!!!

I noticed today what sounded like Sedalia Sub traffic on the Coffeyville Sub KC-Paola Freq 161.265. Did not verify it but they mentioned Lees Summit and said to come east down the line. Coffeyville is a North-South route not East west. Also noticed that the dispatcher is no longer the "Coffeyville dispatcher" but has changed to "Kansas City east" dispatcher.

I will listen more tonight.

Any thoughts on the reason for a switch? I've been listening to the UP River Sub and they're still the same freq. but it also sounds like the same dispatcher from the Sedalia Sub. I appreciate the help greatly!!!!!!!!! I'll tune in and see what I can find. If they were to change their road channel, would that mean that the detectors would change channels with them? Or is it possible for the detector to be on a separate channel?

I actually see a conductor that runs on the coffeyville sub, he comes into my work. If I see him in the next couple of days, I'll ask.

After plugging in the freq, I can also confirm UP Sedalia ops on 161.265. It's got to be for the whole sub. Heard dispatcher trying to get helpers to a train in Pleasant Hill to take the hill. Thank you so much ksmoscanner!!!!

Don't know the exact reason, but UP switched frequencies on another section of line in Arkansas a few years ago due to radio congestion. Other towers transmitting the call-in tone was interfering with the crews the dispatcher was trying to talk with. So one area was moved to another frequency at a crew change point. One some shifts they use the same dispatcher on both frequencies, but they don't have as much interference as using just one frequency.

So when I'm listening to road channel 77-77, I will be hearing the KC EAST dispatcher run trains on BOTH rail lines?

Sorry to be in the wrong state. UP in the Omaha/Council Bluffs area also uses Ch9696 now. In Nebraska the BNSF uses Ch2323 on the Falls city sub. It's kinda strange over a sudden the shift of change of Radio Frequency.

In short yes.

As for Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area for the UP the road ch is on 42-42 for most of it. its the main ch that we use, as for 9696 im not sure where that is used there but we dont in the metro area, 38-38 is CB tower with CB yard and the north yard.

Every once in a while I do hear the tower tell someone to switch over to CH9696. But you are correct.

It was really bothering me not hearing anything for awhile. That detector at MP265.7 is my #1 thing to listen to. I wish I had gotten that memo by Wednesday.... Thanks anyway, always appreciative.
