Unitrunker not saving RR system name

Rick,

First, I want to thank you for all the effort you have put into this program! I love the RR db download feature. Very impressive!

I finally have been able to get UniTrunker to decode P25 systems properly with the correct amount of audio signal input, as well as use it for EDACS, and analog Motorola systems.

Is there a way to keep the RR db system name next to the sysID in the header after download? When I restart the program it returns the system name to "Unnamed site", but retains the group and radio ID information.

Another minor problem is that it will writing over some of the lines with extended charactors and move the % quality to the next line in a wrap around. Also when some of the system frequencies are written to the display they write over some of the lines below, but I am able to restart to correct the display.

Much of the group id information is truncated. Is there a way to just load the RR db "Display" information instead of loading the "description"?

I am using UniTrunker 13 and Win Vista with no program crashing issues by the way.

Keep in mind that the system name and site name are separate - even for single site systems. As for losing the system label ... I don't have enough info to go on so far to give an answer or make a suggestion. Which system is this? Do you have a SID #?

Yeah - that's from a site or system name that is too long. It's supposed to truncate the display of the lengthy name but doesn't quite get the math right.

Press F5 to force a refresh of the screen to avoid re-starting the program.

Not at this time. At one point DB admins debated as to what column widths were appropriate for these fields. Opinions hinged on the alpha display capabilities in the radios each person owned. Most are either too large or too short for Unitrunker. Right now I don't have a fix for this.

The word "unnamed" is displayed when the system name is blank. I didn't see any weird characters in the system name. The resulting 92493796.SYS file looks like this:

The system name - when combined with one of the site labels - is too long to fit inside the window. You should be able to edit the system name to something shorter. I don't see a cause of losing the system name - at least I am unable to reproduce it here.

Be sure to exit the program from the menu. Don't click on the [X] in the top right corner of the frame window.

You can also select ave from the main menu.

However, I have to load the system id every time, even after alt + save and then exit the program. When I re-enter the program it doesn't show.

I'm not sure if this is related to Dave's particular problem, but I ran some import tests with the scanner off so I had a clean slate.

All of the APCO-25 downloads I tested had invalid system id's in their respective system files after the import. Here are a couple of examples:

Depending on how UT handles the parsing of the system file, I can see this as a problem once the system was imported and when UT was restarted. Without seeing the code myself, I don't know if this is in fact what's causing the problem. I could test it if I had a P25 system within my listening range. How in the hell do you load a APCO system from disk? It doesn't like any ID larger than 7FFFFFFF. Due to the data file naming, I'm not sure how to do this. I tried every combo of WACN, sysid, dec/hex.. bleh

Dave, you can test this.. err never mind!

If this doesn't work, then I have no other suggestions.

P25 systems are identified by their full network address - which is the 5 digit WACN followed by the 3 digit SysID - with or without a separating hyphen. I did some testing and found the problem you describe. If you try to load a system of a different type than the currently monitored (or have no signal) ... the program may apply incorrect formatting on the sysid value you enter. The format described above is what should work but isn't because of this bug.

To verify this, with the scanner OFF, import the system again, then exit. Open 92493796.SYS once more, and change the first field to 1942. That is the decimal equivalent of the hexadecimal sysid 796. Turn the scanner back ON and track. Did the label stick this time?

Please don't do that! You'll make a mess of things. Omitting the WACN from the network address will confuse the program. This is the same as taking a Motorola SysID and omitting the first two digits. It won't work.

In any case ... thanks everyone. I couldn't figure out why Dave was losing his system label. Now I understand how and why. Look for a fix in the next release (real soon now).
