So I just completed a discriminator tap to an old pro-2035 I have been messing with Unitrunker the past couple of days. I have been monitoring a Motorola Type II Smartnet system. I found a talkgroup I wanted to submit to the database. I am not quite sure what it is? I have seen PD units switch over to the talkgroup. I do know that it is airport as I heard a unit asking another unit to come to baggage claims. So should I submit the info I have to the DB? How do I find out specifically who it is? Just by listening? I thought this info would be on the control channel and would show up in unitrunker? And if listening is the only way shouldn't I submit it so others can listen and help to find out what it is?

I only ask because I went to submit the info and it says:
"Please DO NOT submit unidentified information."

I do suppose I have at least partially Identified it.

Yes please.

Yep.

The Group ID, radio ID and channel number come from the control channel. The labels you assign to those IDs come from you or the database if you choose to download data for the system.

And if listening is the only way shouldn't I submit it so others can listen and help to find out what it is?
You got it. Submit what you have. Later, when you get a more precise idea, you can submit that too.

Drat. I suggest (a) wait until you've listening reveals a more precise description or (b) start a discussion in your regional forum. Post the ID and system. You might get some feedback. Good luck and good hunting.

You have to admit that this is to be expected. Think about what a mess the RR database would be if we all submitted non confirmed information. I would hate to have a home patrol etc and trust the data on RR if just anything was allowed to be submitted.

Unitrunker does have the right idea .... listen until you can CONFIRM what that talkgroup really is. Thats just how it works.

I just thought it would be a good idea to submit what TGs I have confirmed so others can listen. If we are all listening we can come to a better description. I personally would like to know if there is a new talk group on the system whether there is a description or not. That way I can listen to the talk group and help with a description. But if it is not listed in the database I don't even know it is there unless I use unitrunker myself.

You can use the regional forum to call attention when new IDs appear.

I don't know what was in Thomas's submission. A bare ID isn't useful. An ID with some sort description is likely worth submitting. You're at the mercy of your region's admin(s) to decide whether a description is too vague. Using the baggage claim reference as an example, is this ID - airport security, airport ops, or some other agency that happened to be at the airport that day?

The DB admin working your submission can offer feedback. You may have to repeat the process several tines before a submission is accepted.
