Unusual Ontario Driver's Licence Code

Hi Group!

I was monitoring OPP this morning. The officer ran a check on an individual and he came back with a "Valid Ontario driver's licence, class Golf Q". (I'm not sure if the "Q" is a class or an endorsement.)

This one is a new one by me.
Anyone know what the "Q" stands for?

Edit.... Actually... Are you sure it was Golf "Q" and not Golf "2". G2 makes a lot more sense.

Do they call out out-of-province licenses as their Ontario equivalents? Example: Normal driver's license for passenger cars in Alberta is class 5 - equivalent to class G in Ontario. The reason I ask is that condition code Q in Alberta is an air brake endorsrement.

Failing that, G2 is probably it, as said above.

I agree with Forts, if it was GQ the dispatcher probably would say Golf Quebec. 2 and Q do sound the same...and that's why we have phonetics.

Was the dispatcher saying "Class Golf, Quebec", meaning a class "G" license, from the Province of Quebec?

It was definitely "Golf Q". I have a 396XT which decodes the OPP P25 very clear. My brother was in the room and he remarked on it too, noting how we had never heard it before.

I think it probably means the person also holds an equivalent licence for the province of Quebec, or something close to that. That would make the most sense.

Quebec Drivers licenses like most of the world use numeric classes. Our Class G is a Class 5 license in Quebec. I looked at the HTA and found no mention of the Q...

I still suspect what you heard was G2 or Golf 2.
