I'm not sure if this question goes here or in the aircraft forum, but here goes. Does anyone have any frequiencies that will permit monitoring the launch and comminucations in West Michigan. I use to listen on a 2 meter ham frequiency when I lived in Ohio. I have looked at other sights and there were some 2 meter frequiencies listed but they covered the east side of the state. Thanks in advance for any help.

you can monitor the shuttle on a 2m rig??

Only when they're transmitting

I remember hearing the MIR beacon for two nights in a row on a 2mtr HT. I think it was only putting out a watt!!!!!!!!

Well, technically no you can't monitor the shuttle on a 2 meter rx. However, many ham clubs retransmit the NASA audio patch on their systems, which is permitted on a long-standing authorization under Part 97.
Did you ask around some hams in your area? You might also check Grove's NASA page and see if there's a repeater listed for your area.

You may also be able to hear some of the support comms if you have a HF rx. Check out the message with that topic in the HF forum - I've supplied a csv readable file with lots of freqs.

In NE Ohio you should be able to listen to 145.670 and hear the shuttle

From the NASA Return to Flight page... dated 7/8/05 .....

"NASA weather officers are tracking Hurricane Dennis and its possible impact at Kennedy Space Center. Because the storm has ended its eastward drift and the primary track is slightly more to the west, it was decided this morning that Discovery will not be rolled back from the launch pad."

I also read an AP article this morning talking about NASA relaxing the security around the launch area a bit. In it, they stated Dennis is expected to have no impact on the 3:51pm EDT launch time.

Now... to figure out a way to schedule the 36" video conference tv and the satellite feed for a "meeting" in my office!!

Those Goddard freqs are, I'm pretty sure, found on the HF files I created (see the link and file in the HF forum). However, as that equipment hasn't been used in years, it's quite likely Goddard won't be heard. I do hope I'm wrong about that.... their club call is, of course, WA3NAN

As for the UHF, forget it - unless you have some VERY good equipment, I sincerly doubt you'll hear anything there. However, the page at MT is probably the place to start, along with George F's site.

I'd look around at the various ham clubs in the area and see if their repeaters will be carrying mission audio - some will, no doubt. My Maryland CHM page has some of these clubs' web pages linked there.

per NASA TV, the launch scheduled for today at 15:51 EST has been scrubbed due to a malfunctioning sensor. the crew of shuttle Discovery is now removing harnesses and exiting the shuttle

I just saw the mission specialist come out on NASA TV. Very disappointing, but better safe than sorry. Telling my son he could watch the launch was the only way I could get him to take a nap. Boy am I in trouble!!!

not to be anymore off topic, but NASA says that the next availble launch date, after thurogh (sp?) testing, is on saturday. :( but as said, it would be better to launch next year, than launch now with a possible problem. and half the reason this mission was created was to fix problems.

Streamed to the Internet

If one of the local ham groups rebroadcast I will stream to the internet. Check out liveatc.net the day of the launch for details.
