UASD and the 396T

Hi,

Just received my 396T and I'd appreciate if anyone would help to clarify a thing or two.

So far, I have 3 Maryland systems programed:

Howard Co SQK1
Balto. Co SQK2
Mont. Co SQK3

Howard Co has 4 groups

Police GQK1
Fire GQK2
Public Works GQK3
Parks/Rec GQK4

What I'm seeing with Howard Co (and ONLY Howard Co) is this:

On the LCD while scanning, I dont see the alpha-tag...all I see is the talkgroup ID ie ID:46987.The other two system are displaying the alpha-tag fine. Also, just with Howard Co, when a transmission comes in from group 1, the number (1) on the LCD group line doesn't blink. In other words, when scanning Balto Co, when something comes in from the police group, the number (1) blinks...with fire, the number (2) blinks.

Also, again just with Howard Co, I can turn off all of the groups and it will still scan and receive from all 4 groups...weird. Seems I can't listen to just fire if I want to.

These 3 systems were configured all the same with the UASD software. I've checked and double-checked...all three are setup the same.

Would anyone have any idea for this behaviour? Is this something specific to the MOT system for Howard Co?

Thanks for your help (and sorry for being long-winded).

After looking at this situation a little more I'd like to add:

Double-checking each entry in each Howard Co group within the menu of the radio, there were NO talkgroup ID's programmed. Can't explain why I was still able to receive. Once I entered a ID, the alpha-tag displayed.

Still can't figure out why I can't discriminate what groups I want to listen to. Group on...Group off...doesn't matter...the whole system is scanned. Maybe an update to the firmware will correct this?

Did you copy from a spreadsheet or the rrdatabase and paste into UASD?

I did this and found that by doing so it leaves a space beside the TGID tag and the TGID. This causes the TGID to be displayed as 0 and the tag to either not be displayed or have funny looking jibberish in the space beside the name.

To fix it, I had to go through all of the tags and ID's and remove the space. When you click on the tag, see if your cursor isn't one space over from your tag. I had to re enter all of my ID's.

That character is actually a non-breaking space (ASCII 160). You can remove them easily if you first paste into Notepad et al and do a search & replace. To enter the non-breaking space character in Windows, hold Alt while entering 0160.

They are .USD database files from the 396 Yahoo group.

I'll try that. Thanks. But first, I also want to try ARC396. I purchased it this morning (I actually D/L the demo a week ago to get a feel for it) however, for some reason (with the registered version) the state and county fields won't populate from the RR database (and as you can see, I'm a paying member). I don't know what's up with that...Win96 didn't have a problem.

Thanks again for your reply.

If these were files from the Yahoo Group, and you fixed them, can you UL the fixed files to the group so others don't have the same problem?

Joe,

I surely would if I had repaired the entire file. I was successful with a few channels then I deceided to try the ARC396 software I had just purchased. That worked without a hitch.

Time permitting, I modify the .USD file in question and upload.
