I have a usb-1 cable to program a bcd996xt scanner. I have not updated the programming on my scanner in quite some time. I have since bought a new computer with win 10. While looking for drivers I noticed that there are atleast 2 different chipsets for this cable. PL2303HXA and PL2303HXD. Apparently I need the PL2303HXD chipset in order to work with win 10. This is kind of annoying. Anyway so how do I determine which chipset this cable employs?

Never mind I found the check chip version program. Mine is HXA. So I can either buy a new one. Which is annoying because I feel like uniden is constantly nickel and diming me. Or I can just use my old laptop for updating my scanner. I think I will use the old laptop and check out whistler for my next scanner.

Just a follow up. I tried this driver and it did not work. There is a manual provided, Which states HXA is not supported after Win 7. So I have to buy a new cable after all.

Maybe I should give Uniden more credit. I told them how I feel. I asked for a replacement cable and they gave it to me. No charge. That is good customer service. :)
