Isn't the USB to Serial cable from Scanner Master supposed to work with both the BCD996XT and the BCD396XT. The reason I ask is that the Serial ports on both scanners are different from each other. It will fit into the front port of my BCD996XT which appears to have three prongs. But the newly purchased BCD396XT serial port is 5 prong in a blade shape.

Any help would be appreciated.

Front port on a BCD996XT is the same as the port on a BCD396XT.

UPman, it appears that they aren't. I say this because the cable will not fit into the BCD396XT port but it will fit into the BCD996XT port.

Ok figured out was wrong....needed to clean the plastic that somehow was imbedded in between the connections preventing the port from going all the way.

UPman I owe you an apology.

Ok, I have to ask. Why in the world does Uniden not supply a USB cord with their new scanners? These new scanners are so technically advanced. Serial cables are seriously outdated, aren't they? Just curious, as to the thought process behind this. I'm not knocking Uniden. I have owned both Uniden and RS scanners and IMHO, Uniden are just a better all around, superior product. Why make consumers purchase the USB cable seperately? I apologize if this has been answered before. Just had to ask...
