Hello,

New at this type of HF monitoring.
Just want to be sure that I have this correct:

For the USCG 8983 KHZ:

This is USB, right ?

BTW: how frequently is this used; I've heard nothing on it from Boston this AM.
What type of CG Comms is it used for ?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, it's USB. And as far as it's usage, they may be using a higher freq since it's the AM. Been a long time since I monitored USCG on HF, but they do move up or down in freq depending on propagation and time of day. Generally that freq plus 5696 were reasonably active, but they may be using different ways to communicate rather than HF these days. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable on USCG comms will chime in!

I monitor a lot of utilities and yes USCG does still use 8983 & 5696 but you will find them also using the Cothern freqs as well.

From OP: COTHEN ?

Hi,

Thanks.

What are the more popular COTHEN Freqs ?
There seem to be a lot of them.

Live outside of Boston.

Thanks,
Bob

The most USCG traffic I hear while in scan of the Cothen's, 7527 and 8912 then runners up are 5732,10242 and 11494. As ka3jjz said catch as you can but scanning your memory is a big help.
