Tried searching & couldn’t find where it had been previously addressed...On a Moto P25 Ph1 system, is a user alias (name/unit #, etc) actually transmitted in the data stream or just the UID that then has to be associated with the alias at a console or another enrolled/system programmed radio to be visible? If the data stream does contain the actual alias, is it possible to decode that information as a ‘listener’ or is it not possible or feasible to do so? Trying to come up with a more efficient means to associate UID’s to unit names, though I have been enjoying listening & entering data to build my own lists that I update to my scanners periodically.

Beginning with ASTRO 25 System Release 7.16, Motorola P25 systems can encode the subscriber aliases from Provisioning Manager over the air on the traffic channels during a voice transmission. The aliases are decoded by APX subscribers that have QA09008 Group Services enabled.

So yes, it can be done, however it is a proprietary Motorola feature that can only be decoded by the APX series radio. No scanner or software can decode them.

Don't mean to hijack a thread but is there a way to decode dmr/nxdn uids
NXDN yes! Some systems have RID Aliases enabled. On those systems scanners will display the Aliases. DMR, no, not on a scanner. I will have to look at my MotoTRBO CPS, and RM software and see if there is a set up for the use of Aliases like has been added to the ASTRO-25 firmware.

And for once and all can we get past the term UID as that is not the actual terminology for it? UID, Unit IDentification is Uniden's little pet name for RID, Radio IDentification number used by modern radio systems to show the dispatchers/controllers/system administrators which radio is talking on the network. UID is extremely misleading, as in a police situation, any given unit usually has at least 2 radios in it at any given time. The vehicle's mobile radio, and the HT on the officer's belt. With Fire Apparatus, this increases to 4 or more radios sometimes. And in a Mobile Command Unit/Post, now you could be talking about 20 radios in it.

Motorola doesn't support alias on the DMR line, even though it has been in the DMR standard for a few years now. Several other manufactures do support it however.

Nice rant, but unfortunately you're wrong. Unit ID is a real term used in the APCO25 standards, as well as by manufacturers such as Motorola in programming software, not just a "Uniden pet name".

Here are some screenshots illustrating the use of Unit ID in the real world.

There are two Public Safety NXDN systems in my area, and I do see the alias names when logging activity or monitoring.
