• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does your APX have any distortion on densely modulated wide band signals? My APX7500 was almost unusable on GMRS and amateur and it was set up for wide band.
Sounds odd. I use all my APX flavors on HAM and GMRS and never run into issues. All sound fine. (8000/8500/7000/7500/6000/Next)

My APX7500 worked fine on well aligned amateur and GMRS repeaters that limited before 5KHz deviation but many go out of bounds and so do Baofengs and similar radios. They would drive my 7500 into distortion and it was programmed for wide band. If I programmed it for narrow band I could tell that was super narrow and most every ham repeater was distorted, so it wasn't the lack of WB in the radio. Many APX7500 and 8500 owners have said the same thing. I sold it off and went with Harris XG-100Ms and 100Ps and am very happy with those plus I pocketed a lot of $$ in the process. You can get five or more used XG-100Ms for what one AXP8500 goes for.

@prcguy - Zero problems with my APX 7000xe whether direct or via repeater on amateur and GMRS freqs. The other radios would have also been Baofeng, Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom, etc. over the years. While I rarely use the 7000 for GMRS, I am sure I also tested it using my Motorola XTS and XTL 5000 radios, as I use those most often with GMRS. I even use a Motorola RLN6554 BT microphone and never had issues with my TX/RX audio on GMRS/amateur repeaters or simplex using the 7000.

I believe my APX7000xe is quite the Frankenstein as it is now, but it is what I take when camping as it handles the amateur VHF/UHF bands as well as MURS and GMRS with zero problems. While analog is king, I mostly use it for P25.

I am not even a Motorola novice as you know, but happy to review whatever my settings are in CPS. Still, it appears you moved on after the cost analysis and problem. I would have done the same, but the 7000 was a gift and I have local friends with the equipment to align it if needed.

I find that any of the CCR stuff sounds like junk. My Jeeps all have the midland MTX275 in them as the jeep crews like those. I have used my 6K and 8K to talk to them set for 12.5 alot. I tend to not use the 8500 on GMRS but will do some more listening

I found my APX7500 was a little distorted on some 162MHz weather channels, some have reasonable deviation and modulation levels and some are very hot which the APX did not like.

Okay so change the pl to 0-1 and that should allow the apx to “open” the midland radio ?

ok I’ll try it out at lunch time today.
I don’t see an issue using my own radio except I risk damaging it. But It would just sit in my office because I would rather carry the midland than the apx
I don't blame you, those APXs are heavy! Tell you what, if you want I will trade you two more of those midlands for your APX if you want to lighten up your load!
