Is each of those front pockets sized large enough for a radio, or is each only large enough for an ammo-clip?

Thanks,

From what I saw on the ad, they're ammo clip pockets. Although it did say something about easy removal and replacement with other, maybe bigger, pouches.

How many radios do you need, when out and about? Depending where I'm headed, I choose one and carry it in a Totes (tm) padded shoulder bag where it sits under my arm.

In cooler weather, it's inside my jacket--no one's the wiser.

Less "Suicide Vest" is better.

Anything that looks militant, tactical or SWAT/LE looking will get you noticed.

In some areas, just having a radio with a long antenna pointing toward the sky gets you more attention than usual.

My old job used to use black angled chest rigs for radios, this was oil industry and waterborne operations. We switched to bright fluorescent orange to match the life vests, as black looked too militant. Of course the dark blue jumpsuits under the vest didn't help. It was determined that it was better to look like Coast Guard than SWAT or three letter agency.

I actually prefer the plain black nylon belt pouches, they offer protection to the radio, look a bit old school and don't get a lot of attention. You just look like any worker with a radio. And if that belt clip has broke on your radio, the pouch will keep it on your belt. (Wear a belt too.)

Also, most radios will fit a STANAG 5.56-sized x30 magazine pouch. I carry an APX7000 in a 5.56 single mag pouch very comfortably on my platecarrier. Nearly anything smaller than or similar to an APX in size (which is most radios except things like the PRC-152) will work in a 5.56 pouch, whether pre-installed on a vest or PALS-attached. Almost all my gear is PALS, so it's a Super Simple Stupid Solution.

I agree with the above though, with a very important angle to it: I don't mean to lecture, but it's not generally a good idea to wear a plate carrier unless you're legally authorized to be wearing SAPI plates around. Sure, it may be legal minus the plates, but SAPI plates themselves are NOT legal in a lot of places, and in such places just wearing the vest regardless of contents will constitute reasonable suspicion for a stop and a search of your vest/gear.

Around here if you get a ball cap with a Maltese cross on it and just carry the radio on your belt, with or without a case, everyone thinks you're just another VFF and pays zero attention to you. And most don't know the difference between an H-T and a scanner, even most cops who are used to late-model high-end gear will think it's an old VHF analog rig to let you hear pager tones...just sayin'.

On the other hand, walking around here with either a tactical vest or a man purse would attract a lot of stares...just my 2c.

That vest is set up exactly like the ballistic vest issued to me in work. As everyone else has said, you don't want the attention.

I doubt I'd wear one..

First off, I'd look like a super-geek with radios sticking out of the vest. But the main reason I wouldn't get one of those is that there aren't enough pockets :)

Holy Cow! You could tote 3 or 4 radios, extra batteries, a charger, your lunch, a change of clothing and a couple of bottles of liquid refreshment in that thing.

If it was me, I'd think about a photographer's vest. Probably light weight, cooler wear and doesn't look as threatening.

I'd be worried about looking like a suicide bomber if you're just wandering around. Maybe you could get away with it at a hamfest. Someone may have mentioned a photographers vest. Those are a little more inconspicuous. Whatever you use, consider it from a layman's view.

I need a better level of protection and to carry my accessories too.
. You are a MALE correct? Are you an adult or a teenager? Do you know how that statement sounded? Maybe a man purse might work.... seriously, the damn radio should be enough or even not necessary in some settings, unless you plan on running off to the cayman islands. 73, n9zas
