i would think a carcano should be considered earlier reason for overhead protection. tho perhaps the author knows better

I wonder if there are anti-drone technologies deployed while in operation. A big deal at airports around the world and technologies have been developed to disable drones. Somebody fly a drove a over a motorcade. I wonder if its all GHz stuff or if someone with an old 27 MHz transmitter can still get thru. I'd assume they'd have some sort of drone counter measures at this point

The laser system in DC is not to shoot down aircraft. It is to get the attention of the pilot, like a super bright strobe light clearly visible in the daylight.
