• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just got my Baofeng UV21Pro in the mail. Fired up ok. Receives fine. Downloaded the software from Miklor for this radio. Using a Baofeng cable, shows up on com 3 as working properly. Set the port on the software. I try reading it and I get “Failure” on the software. Any ideas?

( cross posted in an attempt to rectify my problem).

The UV21 Pro is likely a UV-21R. Look in the battery compartment. The same vendor is selling these as 21 Pro all over eBay and AliExpress. The correct CPS is named as "13 17 15R 21Pro CPS Setup v1.04 en.zip" and can be downloaded here:

https://edisk.qiye.163.com/api/biz/...4755&title=13 17 15R 21Pro CPS Setup v1.04 en

The link responds a bit slowly, but you'll get there. FWIW I have yet to see a real 21 Pro. Everyone who has purchased one of these has received a UV-21R

Oh, and the manual can be downloaded from https://edisk.qiye.163.com/api/biz/...4423fa292c49c3bc89b84&title=uv-21系列(gd)说明书5.8

Thank you very much. I actually got this at another site as well just before you posted yours. I don't know what a Pro version is like, but I like this little radio so far. Not bad for the $38 it cost me.

I just got this radio also. The link above doesn't appear to be valid.

What is your opinion of the UV-21? Buy it again or something else in the same price range?
It's an OK radio, nothing to get excited about. Much like all the other Baofengs except it feels solid in my hands. Menus are the same and the long squelch tail is the same as well. If I had to choose, I would go with the UV-17 Pro GPS. Not CHIRP supported yet but a formal request has been summitted by Mr.. Miklor.

How is the squelch tail on the UV-17?
