Greetings. I have a question about VA. Beach and wonder if anyone else has noticed this. Probably a week or 2 ago I was monitoring fairly late at night and heard Dispatch transmit " All EMS units switch to ORION TAC....." and later " All Fire units switch to ORION TAC...." I don't remember the TAC's because I didn't really pay a lot of attention. I figured they were doing radio maintenance. Now I notice I only hear the automated and regular dispatch and almost never hear the mobiles. Also mainly hear EMS, not fire. Have they gone to MDT dispatch like Portsmouth or are they potentially on another talk group on ORION (not the VB ORION). Strange. Thanks in advance.

I did hear some traffic on the ORION 700 VB site today, I think it was VBFD 2( TG 1242), heard numerous units but mainly Ladder 1, Engine 6 and Engine 13, thinking maybe it was training today. This past Saturday I did hear units on the Fire Tacs

Maybe it's just at night, because from last Thursday to last night I have heard dispatch and only heard the mobiles 2 or 3 times. I don't get home till midnight so I will have to listen during the day when able and see. Thanks.

I monitor VB Fire/EMS daily and haven't noticed any changes, everything is as it has been. Try monitoring if you can now, the rain has everyone everywhere and it's busy! I don't normally monitor Orion anymore, but I'll get it reprogrammed and start it up again, I'm gonna go with what @LeSueurC said, more than likely it was training. I did hear an incident with Engine 6 and 13 working an accident just on the other side of the NC border Sunday evening, not sure if they coordinate over Orion or have a Currituck portable (me thinks they have Currituck portables) so that could be another possibility. Then again, anything is possible these days! Oh, of you do hear activity on the higher VB System Tac's, it's either training or a special event. But as of tonight, all dispatches and tacs are working, I heard a kitchen fire and a few accidents on the tacs with no issues. I hope you get it sorted, that can be highly annoying!!!

I'm suspicious that the "switch to ORION TAC" whatever may have been for radio maintenance. I have heard a little more traffic but again it's after midnight when it's not that busy. I'll have to listen during the day on a weekend and see (out of town this weekend). It's probably just the time of day (or night) but with Portsmouth going nearly radio silent with MDT dispatch, I always worry when radio traffic dies off (not that there's anything I can do about it). Thanks for the input.
