Just curious guys, I come to Rhode Island/Connecticut almost 2 - 3 times a year... but this year I am going to actually stay at a hotel in Rhode Island. Found a good deal in Middletown/Newport area. Question I had, I know Newport PD is on the RISCON system, is Newport Fire still on their VHF frequency? Also what about Middletown, they still using all their VHF for Public Safety? I wanna program my 996 and my XTS5000 before i come up. Any good 2M/440 repeaters in that area?

Thanks

Newport PD are NOT on the RISCON system yet. They are still on their VHF freq. 155.730 pl 118.0 Newport Fire likewise is still 154.1675 D532. Middletown and Portsmouth still on their VHF freq's also. The only new freq's in use on Aquidneck Island are the US Navy, Police 143.125 P25 and Fire 149.2875 pl 156.7.
I'm not familiar with any active Ham repeaters, but you can check this site for accurate RI info.

The above post is accurate.

As far as HAM 448.325 186.2 is my 70 cm machine at Newport Hospital, the 2 meter machine has almost no activity. (all Hams welcome)

447.025 in Johnston is good 77.0
145.370 in coventry 67.0

And there is a monster machine in Scituate 145.390 88.0

You should be able to work all of these from the Island.

There is also a GMRS machine at 462.700 88.5, works throughout the Island.

Also useful is a VHF marine radio to keep tabs on the marine traffic, which is extensive.
