The Vacaville 800 trunked system has been failing on and off for about a week now. Right now it is in failsoft, but that isn't working, nobody can talk. Last week when it was failing it would not even go into failsoft. This right in the middle of a major grinder on I-80 with required Vacaville fire to land Calstar in town. It least fire has vhf county radios, PD has nothing other than cellphones at this point.

I wonder how the fire dept is being paged out and what channel they are using to communicate. I'll start listening to Solano fire dispatch (156.000).

Things are back to normal now. I think they were use the landline to send fire out when needed. It would be a great help if they had an 800 simplex channel for backup, since the failsoft didn't seem to work.

Out of curiosity, how do you know they don't have any simplexes? My County's simplex freqs aren't in out fleetmap. I had to grab a portable and my 246t to figure out the freqs. Anyways, isn't there a possibility/likelihood there are simplexes?

Or do you mean just 800 conventional repeated?

If our EDACS system completely takes a dump, our radios are capable of using the TRS freqs simplex. It's not something they train on though so I think I'm the only one at my department who knows how to do it, only because I took the time to figure it out.

Well, they are not licensed for any other frequencies.

"Or do you mean just 800 conventional repeated?"

That would be failsoft mode, which has not been working.

Any word on what is causing their problems? Couldn't find any reference to problems in the Vacaville newspaper.

With regards to the 800 conventional, I meant something other than the trunked freqs reverting to failsoft. I understand what failsoft is.

I just checked the 5 simplexes that I know of for my County, and 2 of them aren't listed in the FCC database. Don't know why/how, but FWIW, they're not in there.
