Talking to a buddy of mine who told me they turned on their multiple sites system after problems with the vendor getting the system to work correctly had been ironed out… he says currently they now have a couple of sites to the north and a couple sites to the south working… with more to come. He also stated there may be times when it will be taken down for (what he thinks) additional improvements such as adding more sites. There are other changes that relate to isolating various depts tone-outs so they don’t interfere with others on the same county dispatch frequencies but the specifics were vague on that point.

Who knows, maybe one of the improvements will provide help for Rt 9. I only posted because I had not run across an answer on the Ct. forum as to why suddenly the Valley Shore freq was so strong. So I made a mental note to ask a friend who lives in the area and is involved with his town’s emergency management dept. and I passed along his answer here.

It would be nice if it improves the reception on Route 9 between Middletown and I-95

My understanding is that the long awaited improvement of the simulcast system now has 4 or 5 sites up and running with another 4 or 5 sites in the works. Currently, the active sites should give coverage on Rt 9 between Middletown and I-95. The coverage will not help with getting into the system from Rt 9 but you should be able to receive ok… my source tells me the system is designed as a paging channel, not a full duplex repeating channel.

I dont hear East Hampton anymore on this channel. Thoughts?
I think you do not hear them because it is a simulcast of Valley Shore only, not a repeater of all activity on 46.18. VS does not dispatch East Hampton.

I asked about your inquiry today with my source and he confirms SP101’s take on the matter. Apparently, if they didn’t drop the link to 46.18 they would essentially turn 453.3875 into a simulcast dispatch frequency for everything on 46.18. Their intention is to provide a paging system only for Valley Shore.
