Using a commercial kenwood handheld running mixed mode P25/analog in case anything goes digital, and I'm positive i heard P25 traffic on 453.625. Also noticed they're licensed for another repeater with a higher ERP on 453.3125 MHz.

For the P25 traffic, I'm only seeing ID 1 so far but I'm positive it was 2 way traffic, unless thats the TG. I've never dealt with p25 on a kenwood before so its new to me.

Can anyone confirm if I did hear P25 and what thats about if I did, and the purpose of the second repeater?

Laptop died on me so I cant program the second .3125 repeater into my P25 radio but I did hear raw digital on it, anyone with an SDR or scanner in the area should be able to pick it up and see what it is, and get the NAC and TGs if they're using any

The PD went to P25, so I would not be surprised if the FD went P25 as well. Although I feel that would be stupid since all but one of their mutual aid departments are on the 5 City trunked system.

I was thinking along those lines since the PD went P25, although if their mutual aid depts have multi band radios then I dont see a reason to not go P25 on their UHF side.

The plan was for them to go P25 as of early this year. They've just been waiting on equipment, especially repeaters. Like the PD, it should be 2 site simulcast.
And don't forget, they also have Huron and Berlin Hts as mutual aid. I think that was the main reason they went UHF in the first place. Prior they had been on 154.37 simplex.

That makes sense. I figured they were going to be changing *something* when I saw their HT1250s on GovDeals earlier this summer. Now, for Huron, as I last knew, they had Kenwood TK-3170s or similar. Do you know if they're upgrading to EFJ or newer NX radios for interop or is up in the air right now for interop plans?

Does Vermilion Township fire have any plans to upgrade to digital comms?

I hear conventional (not trunked) p25 traffic. Set up pretty much the same as Vermilion police on 155.8875. Non trunked, P25. Have not heard much on your frequency... maybe police/fire interop? Left it programmed on my scanner. Will let you know if I hear anything more.

I wouldn't expect to hear much digital traffic in Erie Co. for quite a while. There's enough resistance from the powers that be...
