To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ok. Our FD has finally wen't live with a Conventional P25 system. We did weeks of testing with NX5700 and 5200 everything working fine. The 911 center finally had their 5700 installed. Eveything was working great until we had a fire and responded in the Engine with has a APX4500 and it has the correct flashcode. The 4500 will key up talk to the repeater, all the portables, but the NX5700 at the 911 center cannot hear the 4500.. But the 4500 can hear the NX5700..

I spoke with our local Kenwood dealer and they believe it has something to do with the default TG comparison between the NX5700 and 4500 I know NX is default 1 and 4500 is 1-1 so this really doesn't make sense to me. It works fine on analog. I've checked the codeplug and re written it twice, checked antenna and all the cables. Still nothing.. Any ideas?

Check unit ID, the NX will not unmute if they have the same ID. The fact that it works with the on-site NX portable, but not the 911 NX is what leads me to believe the unit ID may be the problem.

It unmutes on every other portable and mobile just not the APX4500.

1st, take the apx out of service and bench it, put a 5700 in its place till its fixed.

2 need to have the code plug of the apx reviewed. Programming issue most likely.

3, the settings of the "console radio" need a second eye to insure its set correctly.

Conventional the talkgroup settings are kinda mute unless its directive use is based on signal option in the dispatch radio. Though i say no.

Is it a remote base setup to a console, is dispatch tied into the repeater? Those are my first questions of the layout.

The APX is getting pulled from service tomorrow. Replacing with a 5700 and will probably never go back in the rig.

The 911 center is phone line from center to a tone remote to the 5700, it transmits from their tower 30mi to our repeater just like a field unit. But all the NX radios, trucks, and portables work fine. I programmed all the radios for the department and GTR8000. However, the contractor for the 911 center programmed the NX at the dispatch tower and never asked for our codeplug. So, that may be the issue. But I'm leaning toward something in the 4500 is wrong.

It was mentioned earlier about the unit ID problem. We have no need for IDs everything on the APX is group ID: 1, Individual ID: 1, and TG is 1 on the APX and all the NX units..

Since it's a piece of crap you can send it to me to ensure it never gets put back into service in your department.
LOL... I'm sure the radio is fine.. Like kd4efm stated it's probably a codeplug problem. all the NX field units can hear and talk to it on the main channel, just the base at the 911 tower cannot.
The board will probably just sell it.

If it's the only APX in the whole fleet I agree with getting rid of it. From a service/troubleshooting point of view having one oddball just makes things so much more difficult.

I agree.. That radio was installed at Pierce when the truck was built.. From the time the truck was ordered till it arrived. We had migrated from Motorola to all Kenwood. That was a simple thing for the board.. Get rid of it lol

Rule number 1, never duplicate an ID.
Big mistake. I can't fathom the heartburn you will endure, no matter what.
All it takes is 1 bad apple to stun UID 1 and you're DONE. Dead, hurt, NOT COMING HOME done.

Do me and the group a huge favor. Fix it. Use the last 4 of the serial number. Some series of numbers, but I have to stress, this is a HUGE mistake and I would never subject a public safety radio to this. NO MATTER WHAT Mother M says, or any manufacture, let alone anyone else.

This is a job killer out the door.

Please, fix the UID issue now.

I will not answer to this until it is fixed, or I will come out there and fix it for you, and win the customer over. Period. No debating this.

Well, depending on what f/w is in it, there was a update a year or so ago where audio would NOT open on same id, but after throwing a fit due to so many agencies that dont use id it got changed back.
There is a thread on this subject

Think that's a TRBO thing. We have seen duplicated P25 RIDs both on the system (same TG affiliation/registration) as well as P25 conventional and they unmute just fine with dupe IDs.

lol more flawed ON VHF than no band plan on VHF ..
And at least here in Tx, theres no VHF id cordination so if 2 neighboring Counties decide to do P25 conv
.and both projects done by different shops, the likelyhood if dup id's goes up.
I myself have some that do use IDs and some that dont want it

I agree regarding the lack of a VHF band plan even after narrow banding. That could have been a good opportunity to fix it...and a headache too. In the P25 world, you have so many RID digits available unlike MDC as an example. At least figure out a prefix code like a County ID to use along with a numerical order. While Dispatch could be tone remote control to a "base station" elsewhere, you could at least have local radios decode an emergency trigger. There's no reason to use ID 1 for all the radios...ever. Accountability folks
