If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone explain in-depth about vertex's recieve battery save options pertaining to the adjoining parameters? There's no in-depth explanation online that I could find.

In the CPS, there's options like "ABS" or "1:3" etc.

What do you believe is the best setting?

I noticed the beginning of each transmission is cut off abit. I'm in need of a battery lasting about 8-10 hours.

All I could find online is that setting is like a sleep-timer like what computers have but that's about it.

Thanks in advance.

My experience with it is I'm not impressed with any of the "saver" settings. The reason is as you describe, transmission clipping.
Managing a fleet of VX-420 series (yes, a while ago) using the LiIon batteries, there was no problem lasting through 12 hour shifts. It's all dependant to how much TX you are doing and if you need high power. If you are ok with the first 1/2 second clipped (great if using mdc or dtmf in pre) I think I'd use ABS. 1:1.5/1:2/1:2.5/1:3/1:3.5/1:4 as I had it explained was on time : off time in 1 second.

I switched the radio to ABS and it really drained the battery on my vx-451. The radio came default with the 1:7 setting and lasted nearly 20 hours. I'm going to try it on 1:1 setting and see how long it performs. I'm hoping I can get 12 hours out of it without missing a chunk of the beginning of a transmission.
