Hi swr
Speedy i,m white lightning i have owned and operated a cb repair shop for many years! Providing you have a good ground too the base of your ant, and you have nothing close too the ant that will enterfer, and your swr readinds are even one little bit higher on 40 than one then you need too trim your whip no more than 1/4 at a time! and everytime you trim it check it again by readjust your meter on each and every channel! for instance!
I always start on 40 then go too 1, but i recalibrate the external meter i,m using each time i change the channel! so if your reading 3.5.1 on 40 and 3.4.1 on 1 then your band width in the midle is probly reading right in the middle between 40 and 1 or close either direction! the object of this action is too get the absolute lowest reading for all channels on what ever freg your gonna be using! if your useing 11 meter then your freg range will be from 27405 (40) too 26965 (1) so the lowest point over all in swr,s will be channel 20 The perfect reading swr,s are 1.1.1 through out all channels or no higher than 1.5.1 on 40 or 1 which will give you most times 1.1.1 on 20 or it,ll be the same 1.5.1 because of your ground plane which in result is not only your mounting area, but also your ground, and any abjects that are too close too ant,! i had my cb shop here in ga at exit 29 or the old exit number exit 6 for years and have a pretty good rep for being honest with the drivers and work performed and standing behind all i done! i don,t believe in chopping a radio up and installed modulators or like one shop called them (meps units which wasn,t nothing but a ripp off too you drivers! the radios i tuned weither it be the ant, or the whole system are good and clear and loud ! and have good distance depending on static and usage in the air! i have a cbra 29 classic here with stock finals and a lil wil mag mount that depending on the air ways can be heard and talk for almost 20 miles with no mods nor linears! and no power mics!
so if at anytime i can help you or anyone else just ask if not i,ll shut up!
I started adding additional length to the antenna. With each increase the SWR increased. The SWR with the normal length is was roughly 3.4 on 1 and 3.5 on 40 and somewhere in between for channel 19.
