• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does Motorola make any VHF low band (29.7-50 MHz) radio equipment? If not, who does?

Motorola used to but they haven't in a number of years. Right now Kenwood makes low band on a per order basis. The California Highway Patrol and a few other state police agencies still use low band and Kenwood makes them when CHP has a large enough order. That said, CHP's long range plan is to move off of low band because it's just difficult to work with. The large antennas are a pain and the new vehicles computer systems create noise that effects low band, so it has to go.

You may want to check with Motorola and see if they are still marketing the Lowband VHF CDM1550 radio. I'm not seeing that this radio has been discontinued yet.

If you want new:
Kenwood NX-5600 mobile
Harris XL-200M
TPL Systemes has some low band radios, but not all have FCC type certification, you'd have to do some homework: TPL Systèmes

Used market opens up a lot more options.

To add to @mmckenna's post, EF Johnson has their own flavor of the Kenwood NX-5600 which is what CHP last ordered (they all say Kenwood on the control head though). The primary differences between the EFJ variant and the Kenwood variant is that the EFJ variant programs in Armada and is capable of being configured in a seamless multiband configuration with the multi-band/multi-deck option which is exclusive to EFJ.

@nokones the low band CDM has been out of production for over a decade now. It was succeeded by the PM1200 which is a relabeled VX-6000. The "story" is Motorola had large low band order to fill after the CDM went out of production that resulted in the acquisition of Vertex so they could fill the order with the PM1200.

Moto has not made a lowband radio in 10+ years? I think the Low band CDM or Pm1500 was the last one they made. TT
