Anyone else been receiving skip the past couple days on the vhf band? I have been getting alot of Wisconsin fire depts and a few on the far out areas of the metro.

Looks like you folks are having some Great Band Opennings
VHF Propagation Map

Earlier this summer in New England it went well into the 700-900 Mhz range as well

I live out in West Central MN, and it's been great up here too. Past day or so and today have just been wide open on VHF. Hearing a lot or paging into the twin cities which is 200 miles away and a lot of stuff clear into North and South Dakota

Heard some traffic on vhf from up in the Alexandria area. Getting well into Wisconsin and southern Mn... At night time I seem to get better Armer reception. Can pick up the Anoka Co site crystal clear but during the day it fades out..

I think it was Wednesday. I was receiving VHF and UHF traffic from Winnipeg. The UHF surprised me.

It is more common than you would expect. It is fairly common on the prairies, although less common, if you monitor long enough, you will see ducting on 700 and 800MHz as well.

There is 800mhz ducting to some extent on about 80% of the nights and some during the day during the warmer months...

I wasn't aware that UHF and, especially 800mMhz skip was that common. I used to monitor VHF ducting all the time when I lived on the prairie.

Ducting is more noticeable on the prairies. I never noticed ducting when I lived in BC. Once I moved to Alberta, I notice it much more. My best was well North of 200Km with 5w on 2m. I have done some good hauls on UHF well.

One fellow here, who has a pretty decent all band setup, sees 700MHz ducting fairly often.

Skip on the vhf at Hennepin Dispatch was unusually quiet unless our set up has changed. 155.370 used to fun to listed to but thats been done away with. Even the old Minsef was quiet. One sat night in August, on the AM Broadcast band was about as active as I've ever heard. Eastern, Southern, Canada all coming in pretty darn clear.
